Tips for your professional photography session!
- Please show up/be ready at the designated time. Being late will cut into the time devoted to your session. For most sessions, it is best to arrive at least 5 minutes early. I.e. if you are 20 minutes late for your 30 minute session, the photographer is only obligated to stay for the remaining 10 minutes.
- Please leave your mobile phones in your bag/pocket. Your session will go much easier without the distraction of other cameras or the need to answer a mobile phone. We reserve the right to ask you to put away cameras/ mobile phones.
- If you have ideas of poses you’d like to do send them to your photographer before the session so we can try to include that into the session plan.
- Talk to your photographer - if you feel uncomfortable beforehand, or during your session please let your photographer know so they can try to assist so you get the most out of our time together.
- Toddlers and babies – We have toddlers ourselves so understand sometimes they’re just not in the right mood to do the things we ask of them. We try our best to encourage your children to be themselves by bringing along distractions such as balls, shakers or bubbles. We suggest locations that will interest the age group such as playgrounds or beaches which will help us get their true personalities to shine. We have put together a few tips from our experience to help prepare you for your session, but ultimately you know your children, and what will work best -
- Make sure toilet training toddlers go to the toilet beforehand, otherwise it can stop momentum and their focus
- Feed the baby before a session, it will make it easier for the photographer to pose baby
- We know toddlers can be tricky and some like to run off so you can bring one support person along who won’t be included in the photos
- Make sure to arrange your session for a time that works with your children’s nap/meal routines so they have the best chance of being a happy little individual
- If you have a child under six months, as cute as overalls are, they tend to ride up and the straps get in the way of their face so, if possible would recommend a onesie or top and pants
- With children of all ages (and some husbands!) you may need a bribe for after the shoot to help get them be agreeable throughout the session.
- Planning an activity for the session can help the family relax and show us your personalities. You don’t all have to be looking at the camera for a picture to turn out great and show the love you have for one another. Leave the distractions up to the photographers!
- Clothes – make sure your clothes are comfortable so you, or your children aren’t pulling or fiddling with things. Only one person wear loud patterns otherwise it can be very distracting. Wear colours that complement each other like white, beige, blues, navy or greys.
Maternity sessions
We love maternity sessions and have 50 maternity gowns if various styles and colours that you can borrow for your shoot. Below are some tips we have to make your shoot go a bit easier
- We have several strapless dresses you can borrow, for these we recommend a strapless bra, or folding the straps of your bra down under the dress. Generally speaking nude, white or black look best depending on the colours of the dresses you have chosen.
- If you are going to wear any of the belly revealing dresses we recommend white or black underwear, I do not recommend nude as it can appear that you are nude and the eyes attention can do to that.
- Most of the time the dresses look best with bare feet but we do understand some people don’t like to have bare feet.
- We recommend slip on shoes like jandals as they make it easier when you’re getting in and out of dresses, and if you are getting into the water it can help when walking on the beach. We normally have a towel in our car, but we are welcome to bring one along with you as well.
- Bring your extra clothes with you, in case it’s cold or so you can get changed straight after especially if you get into the water.
- Your maternity shoot is your own! If you would like to include cultural attire, baby gear or want to strip right down it’s up to you!
Try to relax, have fun, be yourselves and forget about the camera!
